Come celebrate the Pendleton Woolen Mills 100 year anniversary!

If you missed my previous post on the Oregon's Sesquicentennial Blanket that our Governor gave to President Obama check it out, the blanket is beautiful! Now I want to invite you to visit Pendleton, Oregon and take a free factory tour and see the Indian Trade Blankets being woven. Pendleton Woolen Mills is also celebrating their 100th anniversary this year and have opened a heritage museum. The museum includes the families collection of Native American artifacts, blankets, and company history. All of this is at no charge so you can save your money to take home a blanket of your own.

Chirstmas Carriage Parade & Festival

2nd Annual Christmas Carriage Parade & Festival, Sat. Dec. 6th
The second annual Christmas Carriage Parade & Festival has been scheduled for Saturday, December 6th in Pendleton, OR. This is the only event of its kind in Oregon and Southeast Washington combining the excitement of brightly decorated horse-drawn carriages with an old-fashioned hometown Christmas festival atmosphere. The event is hosted by the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia Blue Mountain Resource Conservation and Development Council (CBMRC&D) and the City of Pendleton, in conjunction with the Pendleton Round Up and Happy Canyon Associations.

To date approximately 20 carriages have registered for the event. Additionally, two new events have been added. These include and Arts and Crafts fair at Heritage Station and carriage rides through Pendleton.

The day’s activities are as follows:
10 a.m. Festival of Trees Family Day at the Pendleton Convention Center
10 a.m. Special activities sponsored by Pendleton merchants
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pony rides @ Frazer and Main parking lot
Noon to 6 p.m. Artisan Alley, craft show and other activities at Heritage Station
2:30 p.m. Christmas Carriage Parade, Main Street Pendleton,
Please note Main Street will be closed from 1 to 3:30 as a safety precaution!
3 to 6 p.m. Carriage rides through Pendleton, Heritage Station
3 p.m. Nut Cracker Tea Party, Pendleton Center for the Arts Bamboo Room
4:30 p.m. Christmas Tree Lighting at Hamley Park
6:30 p.m. Festival of Trees Gala

VFW Cowboy Breakfast

This is a Pendleton tradition during Round-Up! You'll be served pancakes, eggs, ham, coffee, milk and juice Wednesday through Saturday September 10-13, 2008, 6 am -10 am in Stillman Park . Enjoy live country music, sharing a table with the townfolk and a general good time. This is a cowboy breakfast; ain't no breakfast for sissy's depending on the time of morning it can get cold so bring a jacket. Children's Rodeo

The Pendleton Round-Up may best be known for its heart-pounding rodeo and the professional cowboys who compete in it, but there’s another event that’s changing the lives of its participants. The Children’s Rodeo offers special needs children the opportunity to be cowboys and cowgirls for an hour of fun inside the famous Round-Up Arena. The Children’s Rodeo will kick off Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 11:30 a.m. (after slack) and runs until about 12:30 p.m., just before the first day of rodeo action starts in the Round-Up Grounds. The 40 or so children who participate in the Children’s Rodeo – which always takes place the Wednesday of Round-Up week – are special education students with either mental or physical handicaps. Each child receives a trophy, T-shirt, lariat, cowboy hat, scarf and a photo with a cowboy.
